As reported in edition 1207 of Soccer Laduma in January, Hunt faced a five-month challenge to turn results around. For a brief period, he did, putting together a five-game unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership until their bitter rivals Orlando Pirates halted it at the end of the month and claimed the bragging rights.

Things have gone downhill from there, with the Wydad Casablanca 4-0 drubbing in the CAF Champions League being Hunt’s worst defeat as Amakhosi coach.

In that time, there have been suggestions that the dressing room is no longer the same, with players said to be dejected by his public remarks that they aren’t good enough and he is desperate to make changes.

Siya sources have informed the crew that Hunt is targeting at least 15 new players for next season and those would include the ones already signed in principle by Chiefs, in Brandon Petersen, Sifiso Hlanti, Phathutshedzo Nange and Kgaogelo Sekgota.

It means that Hunt will have to offload plenty, and word reaching the Siya crew is that the coach is not just vocal in the media about imminent changes, but has made it clear to the players too!

There have been questions, then, over whether that same squad will put their bodies on the line for Hunt to ultimately save his job.

It’s Player Power showing its hand again at Chiefs, similarly to how Middendorp found the going tough in his final few months.
