No European move for Khunyedi
As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, there was a real possibility for Stellenbosch FC midfield sensation Solly Khunyedi to go abroad, but it has emerged that the club wants to hold on to the player a little bit longer.
Sources at the DStv Premiership outfit had informed the Siya crew that the former Bidvest Wits academy graduate had attract interest from Scotland, although it is understood no formal talks had begun at the time.
Khunyedi joined the side from the Winelands two years ago, when the Clever Boys made the shock decision to have the club’s status sold and the Johannesburg-based outfit relocated to Limpopo and renamed Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
There were rumours that the 22-year-old had been on the radar of several other clubs in the topflight, but Stellies showed a genuine interest in scooping him up, given their faith expressed in young players.
It’s no surprise, then, that he caught the eye of international scouts, with Siya sources further informing the crew that there were inquiries in Malta as well.
However, it appears as though coach Steve Barker will get to use Khunyedi for the remainder of the season as nothing concrete has materialised.
With the player still contracted to Stellenbosch, any interested party would have to table a sizeable transfer offer to convince the club into selling one of their best young assets midway through the PSL season.
But what is crucial to Khunyedi trusting the process is getting more game-time considering he has only featured in two matches so far, having played in 17 league games in the previous campaign when Stellies finished a record fourth place.
