What I like about him…

“Well, so far, he has done well, but he hasn’t arrived yet because I think he hasn’t played a lot of games, but the games where I have seen him, he has done well. There is a lot of improvement that needs to be done as far as his game is concerned. I have noticed one thing about his game… you know, his decision-making sometimes. There’s a time where you have to release the ball in time and then there’s a time where he has to run with the ball. So, the thing is, he needs to be decisive. As soon as he receives the ball, he must have already noticed that okay, I’ve got my teammate in an advanced position – lay the ball for him. But most of the time, he gets the ball, he wants to run with it and sometimes

that delays the mowar mentum of going ford. According to me, when you receive the ball, you must already know what you are going to do with it. Am I going to run with it or is there somebody in a better space than me? That is one part of his game that I have noticed, that if he can improve on that, it’s not that every single time he gets the ball, he has to run with it. And as for the comparison to Jomo Sono, I’m only going to say this… you know, there were different players back then and there are different players now. Even if you look at the football that was played way back, they were not being restricted. They were allowed to play with flair and stuff, but if you look at Saleng, he’s got all that, but now he’s being limited. The system that Pirates is using is the one that’s delaying him from really realizing his full potential because he’s more of an attacking player, but he has to track back sometimes to help out in defence. But then if he has to do that, when we win the ball, how is he going to be able to utilise his flair and skills to get forward? Where will he get the energy from? But comparisons shouldn’t be made. Jomo played during his time and he was the best during his time, and now it’s Saleng’s time. I just think he hasn’t arrived yet because he has to be consistent in his game. But what I like about him is that he has big match temperament.”
