Pirates in no rush with Monare

-

Orlando Pirates will be expected to make a decision on Thabang Monare’s future at the end of the season.

The player has entered into the last six months of his deal with the Buccaneers and while his focus is on helping the team improve their position on the log, he has spoken about his contract situation.

Speaking to journalists last week, the former Jomo Cosmos star reiterated his commitment to the Soweto giants while indirectly confirming that he will be working towards earning a new deal in the remaining fixtures of the season.

“Honestly, for me, it’s an everyday thing. I don’t really have to wait for my contract to come to an end to prove what I’m capable of doing, that would be like cheating the game. So, it’s just a weekly thing where you always push and become a better player than you were the previous day,” said the central midfielder, speaking at the Pirates media day.

According to sources, the club will not be rushing into making a decision on the Embalenhle-born player but could wait until the end of the season to finalise matters.

“There is no rush into making those decisions. It (the player’s future) will be decided at the end of the season,” said a source.

At the end of last season, Bucs had initially decided to release the player as several changes were made by the club, this before making a U-turn and adding him to their roster for the campaign on a new one-year deal.

So far this season, Monare has made eight appearances and played his second 90 minutes under coach Jose Riveiro in the most recent match – the morale-boosting 3-1 victory against Golden Arrows last Saturday.
