How SuperSport lost out to Chiefs on Ditlhokwe

The Siya crew has been informed that SuperSport United had put a new offer on the table for defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe before the player signed for Kaizer Chiefs.

The Botswana national team captain has signed a pre-contract with the Soweto giants and will join the side on a four-year deal in July, but SuperSport were trying to keep the defender on board.

In fact, it appears management was confident of keeping the player beyond the expiration of his contract in June this year. The club was hoping to announce the contract extension after the FIFA World Cup, but things did not quite go according to plan.

of the lank yp layer, who has been solid for the Tshwane outfit this season under the guidance of head coach Gavin Hunt.

SuperSport value the player and had plans to have him as part of the team for a few more years. That, however, has changed and they may need to go into the market to find a replacemen­t.

“SuperSport were looking to extend the player’s contract and they wanted to announce it after the World Cup,” an informant told Soccer Laduma.

This publicatio­ns understand­s that SuperSport are not entirely happy with how things have transpired, but they will continue to play the 24-year-old star until the end of the season, before he leaves for Naturena.

The Siya crew tried to get in touch with SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews for a comment, but he was not available at the time of going to print.
