Omala still an option for Pirates

-

Kenyan international striker Benson Omala will still be open to a move to Orlando Pirates, the Siya crew has been informed.

Bucs have been linked with the 21-year-old since early this year after his impressive displays for Gor Mahia in Kenya. The burly forward scored 26 goals in the Kenyan Premier League last season and has been a subject of transfer speculation from clubs, including those from Europe.

While indications have been that the player could soon finalise a move to Denmark, sources have informed this publication the possibility of him coming to the Soweto giants is still very much alive.

“Benson Omala is a player that Pirates have been interested in and a move to the club for him has been seriously considered. In fact, a move to the club remains a possibility for the player even if not in the current transfer window,” revealed a source.

“The boy would love to play for a big club like Pirates as that would get him closer to going to Europe if he doesn’t get that directly from Kenya. But Pirates had other decisions to make as they have options in the striking department if you consider that Zakhele Lepasa has been scoring goals for the team while the club also has the two players from Cameroon (Bienvenu Eva Nga and Souaibou Marou) and the others,” the source concluded.

Jose Riveiro’s squad looks in good nick up front, with Lepasa scoring freely, while the Spaniard also has the likes of Kermit Erasmus and Evidence Makgopa to call upon. However, a striker of the calibre of Omala could bring a different dimension in what is set to be a grueling CAF Champions League campaign for the men in Black and White.
