PSL t eams have t his t endency of t hinking t hat if a player is in his early 30s, he must hang up his boots. Why is it that club bosses and coaches have t o t ake a decision for an individual who is in charge of his own body? There are disciplined players who live a healt hy lifest yle and are God-fearing. Players that lead by example by arriving early for training sessions and being the last t o leave because t hey want to put in the extrawork. The younger generation are like onehit wonders. Just when you t hink this is the next bright talent of the country, they go off the rails. Some have not even made their mark and t hen t hey disappear from t he scene. Players like Vuyo Mere and Lindokuhle Mbat ha are 37 and 38 years old respect ively, but they still can show the youngsters a t hing or t wo. A t ypical example was SiyabongaNomvethe, who ended his playing career at the age of 42. Let t he players decide for t hemselves t hat now t hey’ve had enough and the legs can’t carry t hem anymore.

The people at Chloorkop who are responsible for scout ing players in South Americamust be given their flowers. The likes of Jorge Acuna, Jose Torrealba, Gast on Sirino and Marcelo Allende are quality players. The new signing, Lucas Ribeiro Cost a, is a baller wit h an educat ed left foot . On a separat e not e, t he PSL must reconsider t his t hing of playing “El Kasino” bet ween Orlando Pirat es and Mamelodi Sundowns midweek. This is a big game and always apotential soldout affair. I don’t know why t his fixt ure should be played midweek.
