Spurs don’t want to set this record

- By Mark Gleeson www.tab4racing.com

Fifty soccer fans are over the moon after winning about R500,000 each on last Saturday’s mega R40-million Soccer 13 pool. TAB soccer customers have more great chances to win big this weekend, including two R200,000 carryover Soccer 10 pools that should each total R2 million!

Cape Town Spurs will set a record for South African football if they lose Saturday’s derby against Cape Town City in the first game at the re-furbished Cape Town Stadium, which has a new hybrid pitch - half natural and half synthetic.

It will be the first time that a team in the top flight of South African football has lost their first seven games of the season. Spurs equalled the record set by Umtata Bush Bucks 24 years ago, when they lost to Golden Arrows last weekend after being a goal up. Failure to beef up their squad after promotion exposed a lack of cash in Spurs’ coffers and they are now paying the price.

Cape Town City were hoping to be genuine trophy contenders this season, but after winning their opening two games, lost five in a row before drawing their last game away at TS Galaxy.

That will give Spurs some hope as both clubs go into the game in pretty desperate form. In fact, all three PSL Cape clubs have struggled recently and

Stellenbosch’s win over Pirates on Sunday ended a run of 12 games without success for the three teams.

This weekend’s PSL fixtures are diminished by four clubs competing in African club competitions. Orlando Pirates are aiming to book a place in the group phase of Champions League by beating Botswana club Jwaneng Galaxy at home on Friday. Pirates should be far too strong, despite losing the first leg of the second-round tie in Gaborone, and it will be a major calamity for the club if they don’t advance.

There’s a full set of weekend English Premier League games including champions Manchester City away on Saturday against Wolves. City have demolished their rivals six times running, scoring 19 goals in the process, and the pattern should continue.

Spurs are getting rave reviews for their performances this season and a draw against Arsenal last Sunday keeps them above their North London rivals on goal difference. Manager Ange Postecoglou gets another tough test this weekend against Liverpool, who traditionally have the upper hand over Spurs and are looking a credible challenger for the EPL title.

HIRED/FIRED: Neil Warnock (74) has been fired by Huddersfield Town but will get paid for the rest of the season. Darren Moore replaces him.

WHO’S COLD: Referee Luxolo Badi, who failed to award Chiefs a penalty in their cup clash with Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend that could have seen AmaKhosi book a place in the MTN8 decider.

NEW BETS: TAB is launching two exciting new bets this weekend - SOCCER SCORES and SOCCER CORNERS. Both bets comprise six matches. With SOCCER SCORES the final score must be predicted in each match, choosing from 8 outcomes: 1 = either team wins 1-0; 2 = 2-0; 3 = 3-0; 4 = 2-1; 5 = 3-1; 6 = 3-2; 7 = any other winning score; 8 = no-score draw; 9 = score draw. To win SOCCER CORNERS the total number of corners in each game must be predicted, choosing from 6 outcomes: 1 = 0-7 corners; 2 = 8 corners; 3 = 9 corners; 4 = 10 corners; 5 = 11 corners; 6 = 12 or more corners. Both bets have R2 units with no fractional betting as with Soccer 10 and 13. Look out for pool details in TABs and at
