Chiefs to open ‘Mshini’ negotiations

-

Kaizer Chiefs have left it quite late, but the Siya crew understands that talks are set to happen at the club over the future of talented midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

The fan-favourite has been a notable absentee from the Glamour Boys matchday squads this season, with the club said to be giving him sufficient time to deal with the loss of his father in September last year, while working to regain his fitness. He did, however, start the opening game of the season against Chippa United, made the bench for the 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy and came on as a substitute in the goalless draw against Royal AM last month.

Since then, the 23-yearold has missed the Soweto giants’ last six matches in all competitions.

In January last year, the man nicknamed ‘Mshini’ signed a two-year extension to his contract, which was due to expire in June 2022. So, his new deal kicked in from January 2021 and is meant to expire in 2024.

Amakhosi will be wary of the former junior international’s contract situation, as PSL rivals and even clubs from beyond South African borders will pounce once they know he’s in the last six months of his deal, where he is allowed by FIFA laws to engage with any interested suitor.

Well-placed Siya sources have indicated that the club are considering a new contract for the Pietermaritzburgborn star, who is keen on getting back to his best in a Chiefs jersey, with Molefi Ntseki having been installed as head coach.

Talks between the two parties are set to commence in the near future.

Ngcobo, still only 23, has been touted in recent seasons as the hope of the Glamour Boys, although injuries have somewhat disturbed his progress.
