Chiefs deal agreed in principle for Maduna?

-

Kaizer Chiefs appear to be close to landing another player from AmaZulu FC, although it might not be without controversy … once again.

With the club expected to make changes to their playing personnel in January and/ or at the end of the season, midfielder Siphesihle Maduna is understood to be one of their primary targets.

The player has been strongly linked with an exit from the Durban-based club after he appeared to be out of favour under Pablo Franco Martin. He hasn’t played any official match for the side this season and has been a notable absentee from the Spaniard’s training sessions.

Indications are that the club has given up on him extending his contract, which is set to expire in June 2024, with Amakhosi believed to be monitoring the situation closely.

“Siphesihle Maduna is a target for Chiefs and don’t be surprised to see him making a move in January or at the end of the season. There have been talks behind closed doors and there is an agreement in place,” said a source.

“The player’s contract with AmaZulu will expire in June next year and he won’t be extending it to stay beyond (that). Chiefs need to strengthen their squad with quality players and Maduna is one of those that have been identified to move to the club,” the source added.

In January last year, it was discovered that midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe had signed a pre-contract with the Soweto giants while still on the books of Usuthu. Although well within his rights as per FIFA rules, the 23-year-old’s actions got him in trouble with AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu, who decided that he would not play for the team again for what remained of his contract, which ended in June.
