THIS AND THAT ON AMAKHOSI

Chiefs are not performing optimally and, for me, the answer is simple: Look to Guardiola. Khune could marshal the centre-back pairing of Msimango and Ditlhokwe installed by Ntseki. And like Guardiola, ensure defensive solidity by playing Njabulo Ngcobo at right fullback, as in the case of John Stones. Dove inspires courage at left fullback, but playing inside at the half-space leaving room for Hlanti to cover at left wing-forward. I believe we have enough ammunition. Mthethwa and Maart can run the midfield, leaving Castillo to push forward and set the press together with Saile, our Haaland. Du Preez or Dolly could add pace and agility at right wingforward. If I had a choice, I’d choose Fadlu Davids and his brother to work together with Zwane and Sheppard to give the defence rhythm and allow the attackers a base to attack from. I believe we have enough to challenge for a CAF position. I believe we mostly need people who are going to organise the defence, push the attackers and keep the players fit and primed to attack the final quarter of the season in 2024.

It is rather shocking to hear and read how Chiefs supporters, week in and out, keep attacking a goalkeeper of Petersen’s calibre. To be honest, we all know he was brought by Hunt to the club. Now suddenly he is a bad player. I mean, what and why doesn’t the central defence also get blamed because they make just as much schoolboy errors? Look at matches when Chiefs lost to Galaxy in the league and Sundowns in the MTN8. There were mistakes made by the defence, but no one is blaming them. Also, well-stated points made by Mr Kwazikwakhe Ngcobo in issue 1348. That’s, in my opinion, why our football will never progress. We celebrate too much mediocrity and favouritism is our downfall.

As the nation awaits the Soweto Derby, I believe there is something Chiefs supporters and South African football fanatics don’t know. They started this season in the rugby national team’s colours. We, including their supporters, still don’t even know what the motive behind changing colours was. The club suspended their training session to welcome the Springboks last week. Maybe Chiefs and the (Motaung) family are no longer interested in football but contemplating opening a business in the rugby field. Soon supporters will be surprised to know that it’s no longer Kaizer Chiefs but Kaizer Chief Rugby. Mark my words, Kaizer Chiefs ayisekho.
