SUPERSPORT JOIN RACE FOR MOERANE
SuperSport United are understood to have joined the race for Lesotho goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane, who the Siya crew reported in last week’s edition of Soccer Laduma is on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs.
Subsequently, it was revealed on the Soccer Laduma website earlier this week that Mamelodi Sundowns are another team that has been keeping tabs on the shot-stopper with a view to adding him to their list of targets.
Moerane has done well as firstchoice goalkeeper for his national side, with his performances against Nigeria and Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers earning him rave reviews.
Now, news reaching the crew’s desk is that the 26-year-old is also being monitored by Matsatsantsa as well as Black Leopards, as incoming from sources.
“Sekhoane Moerane is likely to get invited for trials in the PSL in the coming weeks. The boy has been doing well and it is not surprising that he has now attracted interest from Sundowns and SuperSport United,” said a source.
“That would be a big opportunity for him to further his career at either one of the two teams as they are both good clubs. Sundowns and SuperSport are not the only clubs showing interest in the player as Black Leopards is also keen,” the source concluded.
CRUCIAL FEW MONTHS FOR MGAGA AT STELLIES
The Siya crew understands that the remaining few months of the season will be crucial in deciding Nhlanhla Mgaga’s future as a Stellenbosch FC player.
Following his switch from Baroka FC in the 2021/22 season, one which saw a number of DStv Premiership clubs chasing his signature, Mgaga has established himself as a key part of the side’s plans.
The 27-year-old made a total of 26 appearances in all competitions for the Cape Winelands outfit last season and has featured 14 times in the current campaign.
The player’s two year-contract with the club comes to an end in June 2024, meaning he is fast approaching the last six months of his deal, which will leave the technical team with a decision to make regarding what happens next in his career at Stellies.
The club does have an option for a further year on the Soweto-born star’s contract, which means they have the final say on his future. However, talk of a possible exit at this point cannot be ruled out.
He has featured in all but three matches for coach Steve Barker’s side this campaign, but only thrice as a starter.
mother Rita Khomane. He was 48 years old at the time of his passing.
A memorial service will be held at the Grace Bible Church to remember Khomane on Thursday afternoon, while the funeral has been scheduled for Saturday in Pimville.
His former teammate at Pirates, ex-striker James Mothibi, has paid a glowing tribute to the fallen star.
“This is a very sad time for people who played with Papi Khomane. Papi was a person with respect and he is someone who showed us the way at Orlando Pirates as a club legend and captain of the side. I was very privileged to share a dressing room with that man. He was a very good human being and we went to the same church, the United Reformed Church of Southern Africa,” said Mothibi.
“I was very close to Papi’s family as we both stayed in Winchester Hills and we were neighbours. I remember this other day we had just come back from training and I received a call asking me to rush to Papi’s house to help him. I rushed there and found Papi in the bathroom and he didn’t look to be in a good state. I didn’t know what the problem was, but I was willing to assist. I called Papi’s father, Yster Khomane, and his brother to come and assist me in helping Papi. We drove him to the hospital in his Golf IV and he was fine afterwards. I’d like to send my sincere condolences to Papi’s family during this difficult time after they lost both their son and his mother,” he concluded.
Soccer Laduma sends heartfelt condolences to the Khomane family during their time of bereavement.
