Crunch talks pending for Chiefs and Dolly?

-

Keagan Dolly may have to choose between taking a pay cut and leaving Kaizer Chiefs with discussions over a new deal expected to commence, the Siya crew has been informed.

The midfielder is in the last year of his deal with the Soweto giants since he made a surprise return to Mzansi in 2021 from France, where he played for Montpellier HSC. He is one of the players the club had hoped would lead their ‘reclaiming the glory’ charge when he was brought in as a marquee signing. However, the 30-year-old’s progress has been disrupted by injuries, hence he has made only four appearances thus far this season.

According to sources, Amakhosi are keen to extend the side’s vice captain’s contract, although it might have to come with certain conditions.

Indications are that the player might have to take a salary cut to get another deal in Naturena, which is what was also proposed to Khama Billiat before he decided to leave prior to the start of the season.

Chiefs are expected to start negotiations with Dolly soon to avoid a repeat of what happened with Billiat.

The Westbury-born man is understood to be happy at the Glamour Boys and would be open to the idea of extending his deal. In 64 appearances across all competitions in over two seasons, he has scored 14 goals and contributed 11 assists.

“Chiefs is interested in keeping Dolly beyond his current contract, but there could be conditions. One of those conditions would be for him to take a salary cut, although it’s still early to tell what the decision will be,” said a source.
