Sekhukhune to entice Khune away from Chiefs?

-

Ambitious Sekhukhune United are likely going to set the cat among the pigeons with their statement that they plan to lure a legendary Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper to their camp.

Babina Noko have hinted, albeit very subtly, that should Itumeleng Khune fail to renew his contract with the Soweto giants when it expires in five months’ time, they would be more than willing to bring him on board.

The Ventersdorp-born man is currently serving a suspension at the club after he was found guilty of allegedly reporting for training a little inebriated and, known for their strict code of conduct, Chiefs slapped him with an immediate suspension.

But while serving his suspension, he was selected to feature for a Carling All-Star team that faced and defeated Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch FC 2-1 during the first week of January.

Although he has conceded the number one position to both Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen who alternate in keeping goals while he watches from the stands, the former Bafana Bafana number one produced a Man of the Match performance in that match to win the R100 000 prize that goes with the individual accolade.

If anything, his performance was indicative of his determination to still play for a couple more years even though the perception in the hard-to-please game of billions is that at 36 years his best years might be behind him.

The Siya crew has been informed that Sekhukhune are watching proceedings down Naturena way with keen interest and have made it known that should the Glamour Boys not renew his contract, they will break the bank to bring him to their headquarters.

The player himself did hint that he will not be forced into retirement, with Chiefs having stated in a statement prior to this campaign that this would be his last season before he transitions into a

post-playing role.
