Date set for final Mobbie talks at Sundowns

-

The Siya crew has been informed that the date has been set for defender Nyiko Mobbie to learn his fate – perhaps for the last time – regarding his future with parent club Mamelodi Sundowns.

It’s been a song and dance between the Bafana Bafana international and the Brazilians, who sent him on yet another loan spell to Sekhukhune United at the start of the 2023/24 season.

But this move rubberstamped the long-held assertion that Mobbie, 29, is surplus to requirements at Chloorkop.

Now, word reaching Soccer Laduma is that his camp is expected to hold talks with Sundowns to try and find a viable solution that can benefit the player moving forward, with the loan spells a clear indication he is not in coach Rhulani Mokwena’s future plans.

“The two parties, with Mobbie spoken for by his agency, will meet in May. Nyiko is extremely talented and always works hard as evidenced by his inclusion by coach Hugo Broos for the Africa Cup of Nations,” said a source.

“Nothing will happen now, but it is necessary to discuss his future and maybe find a longterm solution that suits both parties.”

The opinion that the Tshwane giants have no room for Mobbie was further strengthened when the reigning DStv Premiership champions announced the arrival of right back Zuko Mdunyelwa from Chippa United this month.

Mokwena’s explanation why the Brazilians went shopping for a player in that position when the Malamulele-born star remains on their books was telling.

Could it be Mobbie’s final few months as a Sundowns player since signing from Free State Stars in 2019? The Siya crew will stay close to the story.
