ORBIT WINS RACE FOR MOERANE’S SIGNATURE

Motsepe Foundation Championship log leaders Orbit College have won the race for the signature of Lesotho goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane, who has signed a three-and-ahalf-year deal with the side.

The net minder has been on the books of LMPS FC in the Mountain Kingdom and will play alongside countryman and well-traveled midfielder, Tshwarelo Bereng. The developments were confirmed by Cape Town-based Opus Sports Group, who represent the 26-yearold.

Moerane had attracted the attention of several teams in South Africa’s topflight as well as in the second tier, as per previous Siya crew reports, but in the end, the player’s representatives felt Orbit was the best option for the player to get regular game-time.

The Lesotho national team’s number one moves to Mzansi after a very successful 2023, where he won the Goalkeeper of the Tournament in his country as well as last year’s edition of the COSAFA Cup.

Opus Sports Group Managing Director, Chris Bullock, stated that they had several offers for the goalkeeper but felt that Orbit was the right project for Moerane to continue with his growth.

“This was about the chance the player gets to move his career to the next level and we liked how Orbit conducted themselves throughout, as well as their vision for the player,” said Bullock, speaking to Soccer Laduma.

“He will get a good opportunity to get exposure at a good NFD club and if he does well, it will be a chance for him to progress further. I think everyone was on the same page. Now it’s up to Moerane to work hard and perform the way we know he is capable of and the rest will take care of itself.”

The Pogiso Makhoye-coached side are at the summit of the standings with 30 points after 17 games but have University of Pretoria and Baroka FC breathing down their neck in the race for promotion.
