Chivaviro in a race against time at Chiefs?

-

It might still be relatively early in his Kaizer Chiefs days, but Ranga Chivaviro will have everything to play for in the coming weeks in an effort to secure his future, sources have indicated.

The burly marksman joined the club in July 2023 from Marumo Gallants, where he was a top goal scorer, on a two-year contract. This season, he has appeared to struggle with form and is yet to replicate the performances that made him finish the previous campaign with 10 league goals in 19 appearances. He has scored only two goals and has one assist to his name in the current season.

Amakhosi’s interim coach, Cavin Johnson, speaks highly of the player and is expected to recall him to the matchday squads for the upcoming encounters after he missed the fixture against Royal AM last weekend.

With the side expected to make important decisions on the squad and technical team at the end of the season, the 31-yearold is one of the players who will want to improve their numbers to ensure their safety should the club decide to wield the axe after not making any signings in the January transfer window.

“Chivaviro is on a two-year contract at Chiefs and therefore he will be left with one year on the deal at the end of the season. Besides that, the season is still ongoing and there is still a lot that can happen in the remaining matches to change how those numbers look,” said a source.

Towards the end of last year, Chivaviro was linked with a move to Young Africans of Tanzania, who are believed to have been following him since his exploits in the CAF Confederation Cup for Gallants.

It wasn’t the first time that the player’s name had been mentioned in the same sentence as the East African giants as he was initially linked with a move there at the end of last season.
