Pirates to ‘give Evidence’ if Europe comes calling?

-

Orlando Pirates could be open to listening to offers for Evidence Makgopa following his recent showing at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Siya crew has been made to believe.

The 23-year-old was one of the stars for Bafana Bafana and a leading striker in coach Hugo Broos’ team that finished in third place at the continent’s elite competition. He started all seven matches in the national side’s impressive Afcon campaign and was rewarded with one goal and an assist as the team came close to reaching the final had they not been denied by Nigeria in the semis.

The towering forward was back in action in the league for the Buccaneers as a starter against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend and was replaced in the second half by Souaibou Marou.

So far in the 2023/24 season, the ex-Baroka FC man has scored five goals in all competitions, along with two assists.

With some players being linked with overseas moves after the Afcon, Makgopa isn’t being left out with reports suggesting that clubs in France and Belgium have been keen on his services.

“Pirates is a club that doesn’t stand in any player’s way, and they have good intentions about their young players to prosper. Look at Lyle Foster, for example – he is a player who has always showed promise, but the club didn’t stand in his way when it was time for him to move,” a source noted.

“Another example is that of Relebohile Mofokeng, who was recently allowed to go on trial at Wolves in England. Makgopa won’t be an exception as far as I know, but there is no concrete offer for him at the moment,” added the source.
