Raja financial woes to open door for Domingo return?

-

According to Siya sources in the know, and as reported last week, Cape Town City are believed to be eyeing attacking midfielder Haashim Domingo.

While the interest comes as a result of the Citizens searching for a No.10 for coach Eric Tinkler and looking ahead to next season for players that can help raise the level, their chances might just have received a boost.

Soccer Laduma has it on good authority that Raja Casablanca, the Morocco side campaigning in the topflight Botola Pro League are facing financial difficulties and could look at cutting costs in the coming window.

Domingo joined Raja following his surprise exit from Mamelodi Sundowns in June last year as both parties failed to reach an agreement on a new deal, and the North Africans moved swiftly to have him put pen to paper.

The fact that Raja had just appointed former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer, who also recruited Fadlu Davids, was another factor in Domingo agreeing to leaving the Premier Soccer League at the time.

Although there were no guarantees he’d be a regular, the expectation was that Domingo would be a key player…but that hasn’t quite been the case, with sporadic game time as Raja push to win the league title.

However, that aside, reports emerged this month that club president Mohamed Boudrika has failed to deliver on the promise to pay bonuses. Raja were also recently banned by FIFA from registering new players due to outstanding debts, which the new man in charge had promised to settle when he took over. The sanction from the world governing body is behind them now, but the title challengers still face a hurdle financially – and this leaves the door wide open for not just City, but any other PSL side looking to lure Domingo back.
