Chiefs missed an opportunity to sign Botswana international

-

As their season spirals out of control and they seem destined to end yet another season without a trophy, this publication has been informed that Kaizer Chiefs missed an opportunity to sign an international player during January.

Botswana international striker Tumisang “Teenage” Orebonye, who has won the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup with Algerian side USM Alger as well as the CAF Super Cup, was available and willing to join the Black and Gold during the open transfer window.

The Siya Crew was recently informed that Chiefs were sounded out about the player and his availability. And the Crew was informed that the player was actually excited about the prospect of relocating from North Africa and would have been nearer his home country.

However, when there was no approach and the deadline for registration also closely approaching, he was instead invited to Morocco by none other than Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi to join him at AS FAR Rabat FC.

Ironically, the same Nabi was earmarked to join Amakhosi after literally cleaning the floor with Yanga FC in Tanzania, with backto-back league and cup doubles with this publication revealing that he was in talks with Chiefs after they had sacked Arthur Zwane.

Orebonye, who has previously played in Morocco for Khourigba FC, has hit the ground running, finding the net in only his first match for Nabi’s club and has been a consistent goal scorer since January, leading the unfashionable club to the top of the table ahead of the usual suspects Raja and

Wydad Casablanca.

With six more rounds left to complete the Premiership, the two men that failed to land at Naturena are sitting snugly at the top of the chasing pack with 58 points, four more than nearest rivals Raja Casablanca.
