- Ramatsiyi Moholoa

ZIMBABWEAN Rutendo Nyahora won her second successive Spar Women’s road race of the series in Port Elizabeth on Saturday and quickly declared that she wants to win all five legs of the competition.

Top South African runner Lebo Phalula finished second.

The 24-year-old Nyahora, who runs in the colours of Nedbank Road Running Club, covered the 10km event in 33min:09sec.

Maxed Elite ’ s Phalula clocked 33:39 with Mapaseka Makhanya of Transnet Club third in 34:06.

Nyahora was over the moon after her victory.

“I ’ m happy with my performance despite the bad conditions – the wind was just too strong to run a faster race for any of the top athletes,” she said.

“Also, it rained in the early hours of the morning. Not surprised at all, the weather in Port Elizabeth is always unpredictable.

“I wanted to go under 32 minutes today but had to settle for 33:09 because the conditions were not conducive, but I ’ m still happy with my performance.”

Nyahora is determined to sweep the last three legs of the series in Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria, after winning the first leg in Cape Town last month

“I thank Lebogang for setting a good pace, she really pushed me hard,” she said.

Phalula said: “The plan was to win, but finishing second is not bad considering I ’ m still working on my fitness. My sister Lebohang is back at training after giving birth in March, we are training together. I hope to win the Durban leg of the series in June with her back as my training partner. ”
