Popular peplum makes women feel extra special

TREND ACCENTUATES FEMALE FORM

-

THE peplum has been one of the past few season’s most resilient fashion trends – with women the world over taking to the feminine silhouettes of dresses, jackets and even tops with a flare on the waist that accentuates the female form.

At all stores’ clothing rails, women have been snapping it up.

With its strong presence on the streets, Sowetan spoke to designer Hangwani Nengovhela about the trend and its popularity.

Nengovhela is the designer behind Johannesburg label Rubicon, a favourite with local celebrities, including former Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane. Tell us a bit about your fashion label Rubicon.

Rubicon was established in 2002.

The line has a wide range of styles from ready to wear haute couture and bridal.

We ’ ve just showcased our summer 2013 collection that embodies the reawakening of women’s strengths.

She is sensual, a nurturer and yet fierce in character. She is balanced in all senses. The mood is reflected in the muted yet strong detail of the construction. What are your thoughts on the peplum trend and its obvious resilience through the seasons?

Currently there is no frock that can make a woman feel extra special like a beautiful rich lace peplum dress. It gives a woman that perfect style, fit and cut. Is it suited to all body types?

It certainly is, provided it is worn properly and has the right style and cut. What other alternative styles would you advise for women who want to accentuate their curves?

It can be a perfectly stitched swing dress or a perfectly fitted shift dress with blouson sleeves. Which local celebrities would you say wear the peplum trend best?

To mention those that have graced our lines, I’d say Bokang Montjane and Melinda Bam. – Sandiso Ngubane
