MAMELODI Sundowns could move a place up on the log and plunge Black Leopards deeper into the relegation mire when the two sides meet tonight at 7.30pm.

Eleventh-placed Sundowns visit Leopards at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in the only Absa Premiership fixture today.

A win for the Tshwane giants will move them up to 10th spot on 35 points, edging them closer to their targeted eighth spot, though their destiny does not lie in their hands.

It looks ominous for Leopards, who need nothing but victory to move from the bottom of the log, where they are stuck on 23 points.

Leopards suffered their fifth loss in six consecutive matches, going down 4-0 to AmaZulu in their last match. It can’t get any worse for Leopards coach Abel Makhubela, who has had little support from his bosses, who failed to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window.

Sundowns have drawn some confidence from their 2-1 win over Free State Stars, but Pitso Mosimane isn’t getting carried away.

“I’ve noted how Leopards fought from a goal down to win 2-1 against Ajax at that venue. They are good in attack and cannot be taken lightly,” said Mosimane.

“But after you win one game you feel you could win the rest, and emotionally that’s how we feel at the moment,” said Mosimane yesterday.
