Sedibeng s fighters to face off

- BONGANI MAGASELA

THE “Battle of Supremacy” between Sedibeng fighters Bongani “Wonderboy ” Mahlangu and Themba “Slow Poison ” Lesiba will take place at the Orlando Communal Hall.

Mahlangu’s trainer Keith Rass confirmed this yesterday, adding that the bout will be staged by promoter Pat Molefe on June 2. Rass has invited fight fans to bear testimony when Mahlangu, from Boipatong, and Orange Farm’s Lesiba square off against each other. “This fight will confirm the fighter from Sedibeng who will go all the way to fight for the national junior featherweight title held by Thabo Sonjica.”

Lesiba, the Gauteng champion, is rated No4 while Mahlangu, the former WBA Pan African bantamweight titlist, occupies fifth spot.

“I urge people from Sedibeng to come in big numbers. They will know after this fight as to who to back all the way to the SA title,” said Rass.

Mahlangu is the 2004 Athens Olympian who also represented South Africa in the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2006. The dreadlocked lefty remains the only local boxer to stop knock-out artist Macbute Sinyabi within the distance.

Mahlangu, outpointed by former two times IBF and WBF junior lightweight champion Malcolm Klassen in December, restored his respect at Nasrec in February by knocking out Mxolisi “Little Tyson” Nombewu in one round.

Lesiba — trained by his father Leonard Lesiba — last fought in March when he was outpointed by Siviwe Hasheni over eight rounds.

Daniel Bruwer and Fikile Nyalunga top the bill, battling for the vacant SA cruiserweight belt.
