‘ HOT KLAP ’ MABUSE CHARGED
MUSICIAN Sipho “Hotstix ” Mabuse was granted R2 000 bail in the Lenasia Magistrate ’ s Court yesterday.
The Burn Out hitmaker, together with two co-accused, appeared in court on charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
His co-accused are said to be his neighbours. The trio allegedly assaulted Anthony Mamoepa, 25, and a youth aged 17, for stealing Mabuse ’ s car battery outside his home in Soweto on Saturday.
Mabuse was arrested on Tuesday evening, after he admitted to holding the twosome for up to six hours, and beating them.
Police denied media reports that he had turned himself in. Captain Phephi Matlou-Mteto of Kliptown police said: “I don ’ t know anything about him handing himself over.
I can confirm he was arrested and he was charged with assault and GBH.”
Mabuse appeared calm as he stood in the dock yesterday and casually made eye contact with his family members in the gallery.
The state had suggested that the bail be set at R5 000 each for the three accused, but their attorney negotiated with the magistrate. Bail was settled at R2 000 each.
Mabuse ’ s family declined to speak to the media. The musician left the court building via the backdoor.
The matter will be heard again on August 28.
