Ralani finally delivering on early promise

- Nick Said

IT may have been an international break but that does not mean there were not a number of South Africans in action across Europe this weekend.

Bradley “Surprise” Ralani starred for Danish second-tier side Lyngby as they moved to the top of the table with a 3-2 win over Vejle.

Ralani is another product of Farouk Khan’s Stars of Africa Academy and was once thought to be on a par with the likes of Tokelo Rantie and May Mahlangu before injuries stunted his progress.

The winger is now rebuilding his career in Denmark and looks to be in good form, having netted his first of the season the previous week.

Goalkeeper Steve Cann played for Port Talbot Town in the Welsh Premier League as they won 4-2 at home to Aberystwyth Town.

Veteran Cheyne Fowler came off the bench for his Finnish side Haka as they secured a 1-0 victory over PK-35 to find themselves solidly in mid-table coming up to the closing weeks of the campaign.

There were three South Africaborn stars in action in Scotland. In the Championship, Kyle Jacobs played for Queen of the South as their good start to the season came to a halt with a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren. Burton O’Brien played for Alloa Athletic as they picked up a first win of the campaign with a 2-0 away win over Dumbarton.

Michael Travis’s Forfar Athletic had been heading the League One table but were humbled 4-0 at home by Dunfermline.

Finally, Tiya Shipalane played for US second-tier side Carolina Railhawks as they managed a 2-0 win over the Atlanta Silverbacks.
