SENZO Meyiwa’s father was upset yesterday that Orlando Pirates boss Irvin Khoza did not inform him about his son’s insurance payout.

“I know nothing about it (insurance payout). He can ’ t go to the media about this without informing us first. I also only heard about it in the media,” Meyiwa said yesterday.

Khoza informed league members that the insurance policy for the slain former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain had been paid out, with minor details to be finalised before the family can receive the money.

“The PSL has one policy for all the clubs, for injuries, untimely death and loss in service. All players and club officials in the PSL and NFD [National First Division] are covered by that policy,” Khoza said.

“The Senzo Meyiwa insurance was paid out three or four days ago. It was important that we informed the board of governors today, and as I ’ m speaking to you the office is in the process of informing the Meyiwa family.”

Khoza did not give a figure for the policy payout.

Senzo was gunned down in Vosloorus at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo ’ s home in Octo- ber last year.

Meyiwa, however, said he was unhappy that Khoza – who is also the chairman of the PSL – did not inform him first before making the news public.

He said he last spoke to Khoza at his son ’ s funeral.

Meyiwa was recently quoted in a weekend newspaper saying that the family had no money to perform a ritual for his son.

Asked if the family would now perform the ritual where the spirit of the departed Senzo would be brought back, Meyiwa said he could not comment because he knew nothing about the insurance payout.

“Khoza and the PSL have not said a word to me, instead I received many calls from the newspapers! ” he said sounding irritated.

Khoza also heaped praise on the slain former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

“Senzo never bothered getting an agent. He took my word for it. It ’ s not easy to heal (pain of Senzo ’ s death), especially a player of Senzo ’ s calibre,” Khoza said.

PSL spokesperson, Lux September, said according to his understanding, the Meyiwa family has been informed.

It has been a year since Meyiwa was murdered and no one has been arrested. Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said contrary to media reports, they were not aware of any potential beneficiary to Senzo Meyiwa ’ s insurance payout being a suspect.
