THE KwaZulu-Natal teacher who has been on the run since a video of him having sex with a pregnant 17-yearold pupil surfaced will hand himself over to police before the end of next week.

The sister of suspended Ekucabangeni Secondary School, Nquthu, teacher said yesterday her brother was talking with his lawyer about the cases that have been lodged against him.

“He’s not on the run as people assume. He’s at home with us, we’re waiting for my brother’s lawyer to give him the go-ahead to hand himself over to the police this week or next week as they’re looking for him.”

She said her brother’s lawyer was familiarising himself with the cases, but assured angry South Africans he will be done before the end of this week.

The lawyer will then notify her brother to hand himself over to police.

She claimed her brother has been in pain since the video went viral on social media.

“He’s always in his room and he doesn’t want to talk with anyone. We’re afraid that he might commit suicide as he has turned into the community’s laughing stock.”

However, according to police, the teacher is still at large after the victim’s family and education MEC Mthandeni Dlungwana opened cases of sexual assault and statutory rape against him.

Yesterday, police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said the teacher had not handed himself over.

“We couldn’t find him when we visited his home over the weekend.

“He’ll be doing a good thing by handing himself [to us] because that would save state resources.”

The teacher is accused of abusing as many as six girls believed to be between 14 and 17 years old.
