BLINKERS SPARKED GREY LIGHT

Runs well on the Poly

- RACING EDITOR

THE Joey Ramsden-trained Grey Light has always shown a distinct liking for the Polytrack surface but wearing blinkers may have added a new dimension to her ability and there was a lot to like about her win this month over 1 900m.

Dropped back down to 1 600m in today’s Race 5, a FM 86 Handicap at Greyville should not be a problem as she has won over even less in the past.

Jockey Anton Marcus was aboard the Tapit mare last time and is back in the irons and there is no one more reliable in South Africa than him to give Grey Light every chance of winning.

A number of her arrivals are in decent form and need to be looked at.

One of these is Reigning Wave, a King’s Chapel four-year-old.

She also clearly likes this surface and has been holding form very well.

Trainer Sean Tarry sends out three runners and all have done very well recently in similar races.

Top-weight Lady Of Kildare is very good when in the mood and was an impressive winner last time out when making all over this course and distance.

As good as that win was she may battle to give weight away to all these rivals.

Chennai Babe was probably one of the most improved filly in racing last season and is not without a small winning chance here.

She may, however, be stretched by this distance.

Wandie’s is the third of the Tarry runners and she is coming off three comfortable wins.

Her wins have only come at a total cost of 10 points so she will be a dangerous customer in this off bottom weight.

The best bet on this card could be The King Of Random in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1 200m.

This three-year-old gelding has some cracking form behind him.

His debut third place finish on debut behind subsequent Grade 1 winner Gunner was followed up by a runner-up berth to the decent looking Restless Rogue.

His next start was full of merit in a big stakes race at this course against winners where he was third behind Lunar Rush.

It his first taste of the Polytrack but that should not be a problem.
