Eskom resisting probe Treasury
ESKOM bosses have resisted several attempts to investigate coal contracts entered into by the stateowned power utility, the National Treasury said yesterday.
Eskom said in a statement over the weekend that Treasury had not issued any conclusive findings against it on any of the utility’s coal contracts and that it was cooperating with Treasury on its investigations of the coal contracts.
The Sunday Times reported that Treasury’s investigation had revealed that Eskom paid more than R130-million to a mining company owned by the Gupta family for coal the power utility could not use.
“National Treasury has also noted with concern the statement issued by Eskom on Sunday 28 August 2016 suggesting that it has been cooperating with the process of reviews of the coal contracts. The National Treasury would like to categorically state that its efforts have met resistance,” the department said.
One of the requests was for Eskom to submit a list of payments made to Tegeta and invoices received from Tegeta for the period September 1 2015 to April 30 2016, it said. –
