Life for vicious killer
ZONDI DISRESPECTFUL JUDGE –
EMOTIONS ran high in the Circuit Court of the High Court sitting in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court, West Rand, when a convicted double murderer was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Relatives of slain Soweto businessman Jacob Tana Sigasa, 58, burst into tears when Judge Majake Mabesele sentenced Alfred Ndumiso Zondi, 34.
One fell from her chair upon hearing the news and wept. The family that has been demanding justice for nearly six years later expressed satisfaction with the sentence imposed by the court.
Zondi was sentenced to life for killing Sigasa, six years for killing Simon Vilakazi, another six years for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and also ordered to pay a fine of R1 000 or 12 months imprisonment for malicious damage to property.
Zondi had been on the run from police for almost six years after he had shot and killed Sigasa on May 10 2009 in Mzimhlophe, Soweto.
He shot Sigasa three times in the neck and body, and when he fell to the ground face first, Zondi fired three times again as the deceased lay helplessly on the ground.
While out on bail, Zondi went to the home of his ex-lover Nosiphiwe Somagaca in Braamfischerville, Soweto, on October 11 2009. There he found Somagaca with her new boyfriend Vilakazi.
He broke down the door and windows of her shack and stabbed Vilakazi once in his chest. Vilakazi died on the scene.
He was arrested on August 16 2015 at Dube Hostel in Soweto where he was hiding.
“Sigasa died at his business premises in full view of people. A few months later you went and killed the deceased (Vilakazi) with a knife on someone else’s property. This clearly shows that the accused has no respect for lives and people’s properties,” Judge Mabesele said.
“The accused shot and killed the deceased (Sigasa) for flimsy reasons. He falsely accused him of owing him money.”
