Victims find closure at long last

DOUBLE murderer Alfred Ndumiso Zondi’s ex-lover Nosiphiwe Somagaca had mixed emotions whether to rejoice at the sentence or not.

“I am relieved that he has been sent to jail for a long time. I hope that Simon Vilakazi’s family will finally find closure. We had been separated for three months when I met Vilakazi and moved in with him at my home. We met in 1999 in Soweto, and Zondi was abusive which forced me to leave him.

“After killing my boyfriend I was afraid that he was coming for me. I spent years living and walking in fear because he had a gun,” Somagaca said.

Nomvula Nzuza-Sigasa, who was flanked by her siblings and relatives, praised the judge for the sentence.

“I don’t know where to start. We are happy that finally justice has been served. We don’t know the motive why my father [Jacob Tana Sigasa] was killed. We have been praying for closure and finally we found it. We spent six years not knowing who killed our father until he was arrested.

“We suspect that boy [Zondi] was hired by somebody to kill our father. Since his death our lives changed because we didn’t know who did it and why. We went through different phases of trauma while demanding answers.

“Our father was a popular businessman, a philanthropist and a nation builder in Mzimhlophe. He changed many people’s lives and never had enemies. He [Zondi] owes us answers because we want to know who sent him,” she said.
