PRICE CHARTING A NEW PATH
TSHEPO Price is a fresh, new talent to sweep into the gospel space.
A tourism and management graduate, he abandoned a promising career that would have taken him around the country and the world to spread the good word.
“Even when I was in class I realised that tourism was no longer in me, music was my thing.
“I’ve come to learn that when you choose a path and something you really like comes along, you have to face it and take a new route.
“I never worked in tourism and my dad supported me when I had a change of heart to become a musician,” Price says.
Price was singing at church when he was discovered by Reechards Records who offered him a recording contract, and this summer he will be releasing his debut album.
Price was born in Soweto but raised in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. He describes himself as a born-again child of God.
He believes that his music is a continuous testimony, in fact he sees it as a ministry.
“When I sing I’m saying that we must present ourselves to God and let his glory come to cover our lives.”
His album was recorded in Silverton, Pretoria, and has good songs such as
and He features numerous artists in different positions such as Nomzamo Dlamini aka Zaza, Nqobi Nxumalo from Joyous Celebration, Jay Mbiza and Wandile Nkosi.
Price says he was always an obedient child who went to church, and with his music he gives praise to God for keeping him out of harm’s way.
At 26, most of his peers are into hip-hop or dance music but that doesn’t faze him. “Everyone follows their path, whether they think I’m cool or not, people will always choose what they want to say.
“It’s about navigating from good to great, so if you’ve seen good you haven’t seen enough great is coming,” he says.
