Myeni takes rejection in his stride

ORLANDO Pirates supporters reacted with shock when Sifiso Myeni was placed on the transfer list but the midfielder has claimed the move didn’t catch him off guard. Myeni, 28, is a Clever Boy again after parting ways with the Buccaneers. He starred for Wits from 2008 until 2012 before leaving for Pirates. After five seasons with Pirates, Myeni was deemed surplus to requirements by new coach Muhsin Ertugral and accepted his fate straight away. “For me, in football you just have to expect the unexpected... When they said I’m on the transfer list, I said ‘OK, no problem’ because there was no use asking them why,” said Myeni, who scored four goals in 17 games last season despite struggling with injuries. “I then met with Mike Makaab, who is my agent, so he managed to organise me some deals then we sat down and we saw that Wits was a good option so I just went back.” The Soweto-born midfielder only won the 2014 Nedbank Cup with Pirates, ironically against Wits, out of the six finals they reached with him in the side. Despite the many disappointments, he insisted that he enjoyed his time with Bucs. “I think it was good. I managed to play in a lot of finals... I think my summary of my stay at Pirates is that it was good for me, so I think I did well.” Myeni is well aware that the last time the Sturrock Park-based side won a cup was when he was still part of the team in 2010, when they won the Nedbank Cup. Myeni, though, is not yet fit enough to help the team win more silverware and is likely to sit out the clash against Cape Town City tomorrow at Bidvest Stadium (8.15pm) in the first leg of the MTN8 semis.
