Hunt cool with Josephs on bench

- Tshepang Mailwane

IF A wish was granted to Moeneeb Josephs, the Bidvest Wits goalkeeper would probably wish he did not receive that red card in the MTN8 first-leg semifinal against Cape Town City.

Wits coach Gavin Hunt says Josephs has himself to blame for not featuring in Wits’ 2-0 Absa Premiership victory over Baroka at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

Josephs was available after serving a two-match suspension, but Hunt stuck with Darren Keet.

Keet had taken his opportunity with two clean sheets and followed it up with a third against City on Tuesday, while the veteran sat on the bench.

“Moeneeb let himself down, so he must sit. That’s how football works. He got himself out and that’s why we got two or three good goalkeepers,” said Hunt.

Thabang Monare and Cuthbert Malajila were on target for the Clever Boys.

Second-placed Wits are on seven points, level with log leaders Orlando Pirates, whom they meet in what is now a top-of-thetable clash this weekend.

“As long as we are creating chances, that’s the most important thing. I thought it was a fantastic away performance.” said Hunt.

Hunt feels it will take a bit of time before Baroka find their feet in the big league.

“They are a good side that’s playing good football. But people must sometimes remember that it takes time as they are stepping up a level.”
