EFF Vhembe region councillor dies

A LIMPOPO councillor for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Vhembe District municipali­ty Abel Chauke has died just less than two months into his job.

Chauke, who was also a pastor of the Hope for Glory Community Church in Malamulele, died on Sunday of natural causes.

He was born at Bevhula village in Malamulele on July 31 1970. He attended Nkandziyi Primary School and Gidjana High School at Magona. After Grade 12, he did Bible studies before starting his own church.

In 2008 he was the Congress of the People’s chairperso­n for the Vhembe region. He joined the EFF in 2013 and became its chairperso­n for the Malamulele sub-region in 2014. In 2015, the EFF deployed him to the Vhembe region and became its councillor after the recent local polls.

He is survived by his wife and four children. The EFF chairperso­n in Vhembe Tinyiko Manganyi sent condolence­s to the family.

He will be buried in Malamulele tomorrow at 6am.
