Protesters should leave pupils in peace

-

I AM a black woman and proud of it. But can we black people stop destroying property when we’re on strike?

Looking at the story published in Sowetan about Ga Sekgopo villagers in Limpopo protesting at the Munnik Primary School, how do parents justify blocking the entrance into the school while children should be learning to become tomorrow’s leaders?

Yes, they blame the SGB for the school’s financial problems, but why should the children suffer? Burning tyres and tree branches won’t solve the problem the school is facing. I quote: “The school would remain closed until the SGB is removed.”

What if the investigation takes up to seven months? What will happen to the children? Why can’t the parents go and protest at the offices of the department of education or those of the SGB and leave children to study in peace?

We say education is the key to success, yet we break that key. When we take such a decision we should realise who it will affect. Bella Nkoana, e-mail
