SCOTT KENNY SENDS OUT A WARNING

A toast to Singapore

- RACING EDITOR

TRAINER Scott Kenny has his yard in very good form and new recruit Storm Warning bounced back to winning form by taking Race 7, a Pinnacle Stakes over 2 600m on the Turffontein Inside Track on Saturday.

Controversially left out the eLan Gold Cup field this year when many runners lower rated than him started Storm Warning fought out an exciting finish and just got there to beat The Elmo Effect, Kingmambo’s Legacy and Coby.

This was the seven year-old gelding’s third trainer in the last year as first Dominic Zaki handed in his licence and then Johan Janse van Vuuren took him over before moving to Kenny.

This course and distance has always brought out the best out of the Jet Master gelding and he must always be watched at this track.

A crack at the feature race staying races looks his obvious mission for the rest of the season.

There were a couple of impressive winners at this meeting who could now be on the up and worth following in the future.

Race 2 winner Singapore Sling from the Geoff Woodruff yard found good betting support and after jockey Chase Maujean had settled him midfield he had it all to do turning for home but in a matter of strides sliced through the opposition to win unchallenged.

This Philanthropist three-year-old quickened like a good horse and is likely to be aimed at some nice races this season.

Jockey Maujean was also aboard the third race winner Turn Back the time and the sixth race runner-up Navarro who should both be back in the winner’s enclosure before too long.

The Trippi filly Turn Back The Time had to pull out all the stops to get up late and narrowly win but she will get better over further.

Recent runner-up on debut Pajama Party looked the likely winner of the fifth race but apprentice jockey Callum Murray may have sent him too early and the lowly rated Patric came to grab him at the finish.

Trainer Devin Little continues to shine with his small yard and it was a welcome winner for him.

The former Mike de Kock-trained Tabreek now in the care of Joey Ramsden benefitted from a cracking Piere Strydom ride to smash his rivals in Race 5 and he looks a much improved sort and can be followed.

After having success earlier on in the day the Soma-trained Fortissima was heavily backed to win Race 8 but proved just in need of the outing and was only able to be runner-up to the Sean Tarry-trained My Cherry who won comfortably.

Fortissima will be a force against better fields and can be watched.
