Black Coffee loses it

THE man allegedly assaulted by DJ Black Coffee at a concert in Limpopo has not decided whether to lay a charge against him or not.

The superstar DJ allegedly slapped Tshiamo Letshwene, rapper AKA’s road manager, after a schedule mix-up at the DStv iRock Music Festival in Polokwane. And it was captured on a video that went viral on social media yesterday.

In the short video, Black Coffee can be seen talking to two men‚ but the conversation quickly went downhill as Black Coffee can be seen planting a stinging slap on Letshwene’s face, knocking his cap off.

It was reported that the altercation started because AKA wanted to perform during Black Coffee’s set time as he was late for his own. AKA was scheduled to perform for 35 minutes between 10.10pm and 10.45pm, while Black Coffee was scheduled to be on stage for an hour between 12.30am and 1.30am. AKA and his team arrived just minutes before Black Coffee was scheduled to perform and wanted to use Black Coffee’s slot to perform. But AKA’s camp has denied this version, saying the times were swapped by the promoter. Speaking for Letshwene, Raphael Benza of Vth Season Talent and Entertainment Marketing Agency said Letshwene had not yet decided to approach the police. “Tshiamo is injured in spirit more than physically. This is someone he looked up to and saw as an example of a professional in music,” said Benza. “We are all upset, moved and shocked. Although it could have been worse, we are glad everyone kept their composure.

“At this stage Tshiamo is in a state of shock and disbelief. Hopefully, we will receive an apology or at least acknowledgement from Black Coffee that he did something wrong as a gentleman and a role model.”

Yesterday, AKA took to Twitter to confirm the incident. He also apologised to fans for not performing and told them to ask DStv for their money back.

Black Coffee has not yet commented on the incident.

Ever since the video emerged, social media has been set alight, with Black Coffee garnering 2 500 tweets.

Rito Hlungwani, founder and president of iRock Music Festival, says they will have to do an overview of AKA’s contract because he’s already booked to perform at iRock in Rustenburg, North West, in December.
