Spin doctor spews bile over minister’s ‘drinking habit’

- Zoë Mahopo

GOVERNMENT spokeswoman Lumka Oliphant yesterday used profanities as she defended her boss, Social Development Minsiter Bathabile Dlamini.

Yesterday Oliphant took to her Facebook wall and blasted people who have been circulating rumors that Dlamini is a drunkard.

“I can tear apart someone and take a Facebook or Twitter conversation to the streets,” she posted.

There was a report recently which alleged the minister was drunk as she addressed an event in Germiston, Ekurhuleni, on Friday.

In recent months Dlamini has been subjected to wide criticism over her alleged drinking habits.

Dlamini has also not been spared from online mockery with some people circulating memes using her image. Last year, a video clip showed Dlamini breaking down in tears as Port Elizabeth residents started hurling insults at her.

Oliphant stated that she was tired of people spreading lies, adding that Dlamini does not consume alcohol.

She further said there would be no drinking in South Africa if it were up to Dlamini.

“Akabufuni. Akabuseli “She hates it and she does not drink it),” she wrote in Xhosa.

Oliphant also pointed out that it had become fashionable to accuse people who speak positively about leaders “of dancing for their food”.

“So today, allow me to dance for my food. Above all allow me to be vulgar. Anyone of you who wish to use this post for your articles, go the f**k ahead!”

The vulgar tone of her post escalates as Oliphant describes reports about Dlamini as “Sh**t.”

“One more thing I must tell you, you can say whatever you want to say on her politics when you do not agree with her, I do not mind. I do not care. It is part of the game. But don’t talk sh**t about her.

“I have decided to take this alcohol matter to the gutter where you have taken it. Ukuba uthe uBathabile uyasela, ndithi mna ngunyoko lowo isfebe selali! Uyakwazi ukumbona umntu onxilileyo ngoba umazela kunyoko!” (If you say Bathabile drinks I says that is your mother, the village slut who is a drunk.)

She ends the post by addressing those who have kept silent about the negative rumours.

“And all of you who know her, your silence is deafening!”

Other people commented on the post.

Oliphant responded to one of the posts saying that Dlamini sat her down when she found out that she (Oliphant) drinks. “It was hard for her to understand,” she writes.

When contacted for comment yesterday Oliphant said: “Go and quote the post on Facebook.”

The line went dead thereafter.
