Kay says cheers to soapie scene

- Julia Madibogo

UZALO actor Kay Sibiya will take a break from the popular SABC1 soapie this year.

The talented actor and model was first introduced to viewers as the co-host of Sunday Chillaz on SABC1.

He took a leap into acting and was one of the leads at the inception of Uzalo in 2015.

He’s played the character of Ayanda Mdletshe, a young man who was raised by another family after he was switched at birth by nurses.

The show’s spokeswoman Koketso Phala confirmed the star’s departure, saying it would be for a short time.

“His character will only be in the first 12 episodes of season 3, starting in February 2017,” she said.

Phala said there was no bad blood between the show’s creators and the star.

Speaking to Sowetan, Sibiya said the break-up was on good terms.

“It’s a creative decision that we took together with the producers. Ayanda will be taking time off the screen, but Kay will always be with the show,” he said.

“I am still based in Durban for now. I am working on some other projects ...”

Sibiya said he was grateful for the opportunity.

Meanwhile, television actor Sisa Hewana is also bidding farewell to his role on Isidingo after six years.

The 34-year-old actor will make his last appearance on the SABC3 show at the end of January.

“New year! I began by completing playing the role of Skhumbuzo. It was six years of growth, now on my way to achieving my real dream,” Hewana shared on social media. Isidingo’s production company Endemol refused to comment.
