MASTER BOULDER LOOKS READY TO WIN

Good bets in early races

- RACING EDITOR

Trainer Paul Matchett has his string back in form and his charge, Master Boulder, ran a cracking race at the Vaal just two days ago. If coming out again so soon, and many have, he could be ready to win Race 8, a MR 66 Handicap over 1200m at the Vaal today.

This Rock Of Rochelle gelding has been unreliable in the past but he has now run decent races in three of his last four starts.

There are many dangers, however, and best of them could be Tokyo Drift. Trainer Scott Kenny is another trainer in good form and Tokyo Drift is likely to run a decent race.

Tokyo Drift started his career in fine style, winning two races, but has struggled to win since.

Blinkers were added for his latest start and Tokyo Drift was only beaten two lengths when sixth behind Rand Club.

That was his first run coming back from a break so he may have just needed it.

Once again we will be looking to the earlier races to build up a kitty and Jackman in Race 1 and Shivering Sea in Race 2 look the pair to follow.

Brian Wiid trained Jackman is clearly not an easy horse to win with as this gelding has finished runner-up in four of his last six starts. That certainly suggests a mental weakness on the part of Jackman and in a bid to change things his trainer has reached for blinkers. This could be a winning move.

It is a work riders’ race and in Sam Mosia he has one of the very best.

Shivering Sea has only won once in 24 lifetime starts but she has run a lot of good races and today could be the day for her to get a confidence-boosting win. Shivering Sea was third behind Queen’s Jet in November and Queen’s Jet won again on Tuesday to boost the form.

She also was a decent runner-up behind The Stone Thrower when current rider, Gavin Lerena, was aboard.

?? ?? IMPROVING: Master Boulder will be having his second race in two days when he lines up for Race 8 at the Vaal today but he looks due for a win.
