NETSHIOZWI NOT READY TO FACE BUCS IN NEDBANK CUP

- Tshepang Mailwane

WITH just a few hours left to the Nedbank Cup draw, there are a number of lower division clubs excited to see who they are going to play.

While some might want to rub shoulders with big-name players who play in the top flight, Abednigo Netshiozwi would like to avoid playing against former side Orlando Pirates at all costs.

Netshiozwi is working as an assistant coach to Teboho Moloi at ABC Motsepe League’s North West-based club Buya Msuthu, who have their name in the hat for tonight’s last-32 draw in Sandton.

“We are happy to be in the competition and the players are excited. I think it’s still too early [to play against Pirates],” said Netshiozwi.

The last-32 round is made up of 16 Premiership clubs, eight NFD clubs and eight clubs from the Safa structures.

“Maybe we can play them in the semifinals. We want to progress in the competition and build our confidence first, then maybe we can play Pirates at a later stage.”

Netshiozwi did not want to give away what the country can expect from his team because they want to surprise their opponents.

Previously, third-tier clubs such as Baroka and Maluti FET College have made a mark in the competition and there’s no reason for the Buya Msuthu players not to believe they too can have a fairytale story.

“It’s good that we are not known. We will go in the tournament as underdogs and we know how most of the teams in the competition play.”

Other than doing well in the knockout competition, Buya Msuthu want to win promotion to the National First Division. They need to finish at the top of the North West region league to qualify for the promotion play-offs.

Netshiozwi is still new to coaching but he has equipped himself with the CAF B and Safa B coaching certificates.

The draw will be live on SuperSport from 7.30pm.
