A TREBLE FOR CHASE MAUJEAN

Silvano scores as sire

- RACING EDITOR

WITH leading riders Piere Strydom and Gavin Lerena suspended for the race meeting at Turffontein on Saturday it gave some lesser lights an opportunity to cash in with some winners and it was Chase Maujean who had the best day winning three times.

Maujean started his winning run with the debutant Parabola in Race 3 and followed up with Detonation in Race 5 and Kilauea in Race 6.

It was a good win for the Silvano filly Parabola as it is not easy making your debut over 1600m on a tight track but she proved to be too good for her rivals and was full of running at the finish which suggested she would be even better over a bit further.

Stable companion and Geoff Woodruff-trained Detonation had shown nice promise when winning in March and then again in April last year but disappointed in May and a long break followed.

The Dynasty five-yearold may have just needed his return when runner-up behind Fangia last month.

Detonation came from some way off the pace to quicken best and catch Star Trek short of the post to win going away.

This 2000m distance and even further suits Detonation and he has more wins in him.

Fangia was a few lengths back at the line indicating how much the Woodruff winner has come on from his last run.

The David Nieuwenhuizen-trained Kilauea had not won for some time but was well weighted in the Conditions Plate of Race 6 and the Trippi filly showed she likes this track by beating Crystal Glamour and Shaama.

Silvano also produced something worth noting as he was the sire of the first three winners.

Not only did Parabola win Race 3 but Dalaal won Race 1 and Racing Free won race 2.

Dalaal was particularly impressive as she quickened best and looks to have some talent.

It was also doubles on the day for trainer Brian Wiid and two winners for jockey Warren Kennedy.

Wiid had been a bit unlucky with numerous runner-up berths to his credit and one of those frustrating charges Jackman finally shed his maiden tag by winning Race 4.

Stable companion Arpad captured the lucky last race.

Visiting Gauteng for the first time this year Kennedy was aboard the winners Racing Free and Inga.

Jockey Fortune was another with a brace of winners as he was the rider of both Jackman and Unagi.

Unagi defied topweight to win impressively and clearly is still improving.
