Kisses for sale

- Patience Bambalele

GENERATIONS: The Legacy star Manaka Ranaka is selling kisses to raise funds for sanitary towels.

Ranaka, who is known for her role as Lucy in the SABC1 soapie, has started an initiative to kiss men for R10 each.

She has been posting photos on social media. The idea started on Valentine’s Day when she decided to spread love and acknowledged people who work in Generations’ art department.

“I gave all of them baby kisses. I realised then that I could sell the kisses to raise funds for young girls from disadvantaged communities. I plan to continue with the initiative the whole year.”

The actress has so far raised about R1 000 in her first week.

Ranaka said she was inspired to help after she read that millions of girls, aged between 13 and 19, missed a week of school every month because of a lack of sanitary pads.

“I have never been in such a situation but I try to put myself in their shoes. I realised that if we all come together and support the initiative we can help these girls.”

She said the concept started at the SABC, and many men responded positively, supporting the idea. Ranaka said the “One Kiss For R10” initiative had been given the nod by many male and female celebrities, who wanted to join her.

She said that those celebrities who had came forward were Thando Thabethe, Tshedi Mholo and Buhle from The Soil.

Manaka said some people who had responded to the initiative were nurses who advised her to use mouth sanitiser after all the kisses.

Manaka said her passion to help started on her birthday in 2015, collecting shoes for the needy.
