BI POT CAN BE BANKED IN EXOTICS

Form looks better than merit rating suggests

- RACING EDITOR

JUDPOT filly Bi Pot may not be the best weighted runner in Race 4, a Progress Plate over 1600m at the Vaal today, but having had just three runs she is likely to be a lot better than her current merit rating of 74 suggests.

The Geoff Woodruff-trained filly proved just in need of her 1200m debut when fourth, beaten just 1.20 lengths by A Women’s Will on the Turffontein Inside track. Bi Pot followed that up with a solid maiden win at this track over 1400m when beating Ordained.

Woodruff threw in the deep-end in just her third start and she mixed it with the colts and was not disgraced when fourth behind Unagi, beaten 2.50 lengths over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside track.

That run suggests Bi Pot has more to offer and this course and distance is likely to suit her nicely.

Sensible Lover is clearly the best weighted runner in the race but the form of the Weiho Marwing yard has not been great recently and Sensible Lover has not run anywhere her rating for some time.

A drop of four points after her last run sees Sensible Lover come into this race with a 91 merit rating.

Trainer Corne Spies has his juveniles firing and Laurent Du Var, who runs in Race 1, put in a decent debut back in December when runner-up behind Daring Diva.

That winner has since won again and is very talented.

Spies does not send out unfit horses so the break he has had will not be a problem.

Trainer Paul Peters must have been pleased with the debut performance of Unchained Melody who was runner-up on a recent debut. She will be hard to beat in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1000m.

?? ?? ABILITY: Bi Pot is out at the weights with her rival but has excellent form and could be the answer to Race 4 at the Vaal today.
