They won’t take it easy - Pitso

‘WE’LL SHUFFLE THE TEAM’

- By Mark Gleeson

Pitso Mosimane believes his Mamelodi Sundowns charges are professional enough to resist any temptation to slack off after bagging another trophy at the weekend.

Victory in the African Super Cup over TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Pretoria on Saturday completed a cycle of success for Sundowns, including taking the Premier Soccer League title in May and a first African Champions League trophy in October.

Mosimane says he is not concerned there might be a “switch off ” by his players as the hangover of success kicks in.

Instead, the Sundowns coach says a “good culture” at the club and stiff competition for places in the team will keep the juggernaut ticking over as Sundowns now set their sights on defending their domestic crown and winning the Champions League again.

“The places in the starting line-up that are up for grabs will keep the momentum going,” Mosimane said.

“All the players know that if they lose their place it is very hard to get back in the side. There is stiff competition for places and not much to choose between the players. The players must continue to fight for their places.

“Obviously here and there I am going to have to shuffle the team but essentially, you know me, I don’t like to change the team too much. So you must play well to keep your place.

“But I’m lucky to have a very responsible group of players who are looking after themselves and who make sure they are in top condition.”

Sundowns have to catch up several league matches after postponements at the start of the season when they were chasing Champions League glory.

They also begin the defence of their Champions League title next month with a two-legged tie against Kampala City Council of Uganda, plus meet amateurs Mariveni United in the first round of the Nedbank Cup on 6 March.
