PSL title on the line

Pitso warns rivals of Downs’ rise

- Tiyani wa ka Mabasa

PITSO Mosimane is keeping his emotions in check as the PSL race hots up.

The Mamelodi Sundowns mentor said ahead of tomorrow’s big clash against Bidvest Wits at Loftus Stadium (6pm) that the Brazilians don’t have to beat the Clever Boys.

“Do we have to win against Wits? No, we don’t have to,” claimed Mosimane.

He further said that he’d been watching teams exchange the top spot on the log week in and week out. In the same breathe, he suggested that this will stop once fifth-placed Sundowns go top. Wits are currently top of the standings.

“There is a nice jolly ride up there – up and down, up and down. We don’t want to get involved in that and hopefully we will get there at the right time. And then we stop the jolly rides,” said Mosimane.

“The worst thing you can do for yourself is to allow Sundowns to have [a] six-points [lead], you know that.”

The 52-year-old warned that his charges always score at home.

Since August, the Tshwane side has played 13 home games and only failed to score in one match, which was against SuperSport when the two sides played to a goalless draw in their Telkom Knockout quarterfinal.

“There is a goal there, you know that. Last year we played them [Wits] there, we scored four. There is always a goal in Pretoria,” he added.

Sundowns and Wits last met in October last year in the MTN8 final at Mbombela Stadium, with Wits winning 30. Mosimane, though, intimated that he is not concerned about that result.

“We beat them twice last season [in league games], so who is under pressure to win? If it is about bragging rights, I can say I’ve won the [CAF] Super Cup. I can say I won the Champions League.

“I can say I won the league with 71 points – 14 points they [Wits] were behind. I can go on and on,” Mosimane added.
