On budget 2017/2018

MUCH as I agree that Pravin Gordhan delivered a relatively balanced budget, I’m a bit worried about the way personal income tax is raised to generate additional revenue to service a debt of almost R2.2-trillion. This is a burden to future generations, who are going to inherit it. – Tlou ya Mamphele, Rustenburg I WAS impressed by those MPs who gave Pravin Gordhan a standing ovation. Brian Molefe is not the right person for that seat. – Oriah Choshane PRAVIN Gordhan is good at his job. Unfortunately, the vultures want mediocrity and compromised people to serve their selfish interests above the country’s. – Anonymous

On crime and foreigners

I AM a prison warder at Johannesburg Prison, better known as Sun City. Out of 10 trucks that take prisoners to court every day, 90% of the suspects happen to be foreigners. They are mainly Zimbabweans facing serious charges like murder, and Nigerians facing drug and fraud charges. It is true that crime doesn’t know nationality, but to hide behind xenophobia when foreigners commit crime is wrong. – Anonymous

On Brian Molefe

DISGRUNTLED members of the ANC in North West who are against the deployment of Brian Molefe to parliament should back off. Attending ANC meetings does not guarantee you a seat in parliament. – Mokotedi Mompati, Joburg WE AS South Africans don’t want Brian Molefe as an MP. Not even the branch that he is alleged to belong to knows him, which means he is being forced on the people by premier Supra Mahumapelo and the North West ANC. – Seganya Motlana, Mankweng
