Wome hopes to keep the goals coming

DOVE SAVES BUCS

DOVE Wome has made a decent start with Orlando Pirates and is hoping there is more to come.

Pirates may be having a bad run as they are winless in 10 games, but Wome has already scored two goals since his six-month loan switch from SuperSport United last month.

The Togolese international is pleased and aims to keep scoring, but is careful not to promise too much, especially with the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs coming up on Saturday.

“Scoring goals is something I’m used to, but I have to seriously credit the team. You know, if you want to score a goal it is up to your team mates. So credit must go to them,” said Wome after he scored for the second time in as many matches to rescue a point for Pirates in their 1-1 draw with Polokwane City on Saturday.

“I hope I can keep scoring and obviously, there is a big game coming (against Chiefs on Saturday). I’m not promising anything but you know team work is important,” he said.

The 25-year-old’s season was affected by a knee injury late last year and on his return from a twomonth spell on the sidelines, Wome failed to break into the SuperSport team. Consequently, he was loaned out to Pirates last month, making his debut in the match against Bidvest Wits which Pirates lost 2-1 and opening his Bucs account three days later in the 2-2 draw away to Cape Town City. The midfielder believes he has shaken off his injury worries and is focused on making his mark at Pirates.

“It has been difficult for me this season. I had an operation and was out for two months. When I came back the team (SuperSport) was already doing well so it was difficult for the coach to change,” he explained.

“I got a chance to move and show what I can do. It was difficult at first but now I’m getting game time I’m happy for now.”

Wome played 72 games and scored 15 goals for SuperSport after joining them from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2014.
